Studio Information + FAQs
I work out of a wonderfully bright studio in Chiswick at The Barley Mow Center for headshots, portraits, and the majority of my creative work. Even on darker days there is plenty of light to play with and shape. There’s a classic smattering of canvases and gear, but you’ll have a cozy desk and area to lay out or hang your outfit choices and touch up hair/makeup.
There are toilets available about 3 yards outside my studio door, where you can also change outfits.

Item description

Absolutely, I have a desk with a lighted mirror and lots of amenities right in the studio, as well as toilets nearby if you need to wash your face or shave.
-
Please allow at least 48 hours of notice to reschedule without having to pay a new deposit.
If you decide to fully cancel with less than 48 hours notice I will require half the session fee to be paid.
In a tight spot, you may send notice by 12AM midnight the night before your appointment if an audition or illness/etc comes up in order to reschedule (however at this point I will require a new deposit for a new session).
The Studio

I’ll greet you in the lobby of The Barley Mow Center where you’re welcome to grab a coffee or tea if you like and we’ll have a quick chat. Then we’ll head to my studio where we’ll take a look at the outfits you brought and come up with a game plan for the session and you can touch up hair and makeup if needed.
I do my best to run my sessions in a way that lets us both be artists. I love getting to know you and putting very little pressure on the session-the only essential thing is for you to breathe and get comfy-I’ll make sure all the rest happens!
-
Absolutely. My main goal is to let you get comfortable and move/stand/sit in a way that feels good to you, but every so often I may offer a slight adjustment to help the camera angle. Some people like to pose away on their own, and some people love to have guidance throughout-and lots of people fall in between. I always happily adjust to your needs.

Ideally, makeup and hair should reflect the styling you do for yourself when you walk into an audition. We want to make sure your photo will look like you when you walk into the room. Don’t worry if you’ve got any pesky spots show up on the day, that’s a two second job in photoshop :) We can certainly build makeup up to a more glam look if that’s useful for the types of auditions you typically go to or are being submitted for.
-
Of course! Most sessions fall into the 90-110 minute range to account for a chat and a break here and there.
-
Please always ask before bringing anyone in addition to yourself, but it’s usually fine if needed. The studio is tiny, so I just ask that they stay aware of equipment, etc. *If you’re a parent or legal guardian of a client that is under 18, I would of course expect you to attend and I ask that you stay for the entire shoot, please.
The Session
-
I’m afraid I don’t offer a full look at your album until it’s sent to you after our shoot, but I can show you shots here and there on the camera during the session if you’d like. If I see a really stunning one as we’re going through I’m always hyped to share! I’ll always ask, though.
-
I aim to get all of your photos back to you within 5 working days, though it is often less than that. Retouches will be turned around within 10 days.
-
No, sorry. Your album of proofs will be available for at least 3 months after your session, but I’m afraid you may only use fully retouched photos delivered by Joss Ryder photo.
-
I really hope it doesn’t happen, but if there is a technical or otherwise concrete reason they did not turn out how you’d expect, we can discuss and I may offer a reshoot. If it relates to something within your control (hair/makeup/wardrobe/expressions) I’m afraid I can’t. Again, I’ll do everything within my own control to ensure you walk away with everything you need at the quality you expect.
